Editorial policy

The Quiet Square aims to make writing about chess and strategy games accurate, understandable, and candid about uncertainty. We explain what supports a claim and welcome corrections when a line, rule, or description needs another look.

Accuracy and clarity

We check game terminology, rules, notation, and examples against the material available to the editor. When an analysis depends on a particular position or interpretation, we make that scope clear rather than presenting it as a universal rule. Readers can send corrections through the Contact page; significant changes are made in the relevant piece, with an editorial note when useful.

Independence

Editorial choices are made for their relevance to readers and the publication’s subject. A partnership does not buy a favorable opinion or control over independent editorial coverage. We do not claim testing, research, or expertise that a piece does not have.

Paid and partner material

Paid placements and partner contributions are labelled clearly so readers can distinguish them from independent editorial work. Any relevant relationship is disclosed alongside the material, and partner content does not receive an editorial endorsement by default.

Illustrations and updates

Some illustrations may be generated with artificial intelligence. Illustrations are not evidence of a real game, person, or event unless the accompanying text says so. We may update published material to correct errors or improve clarity, and note substantive corrections where appropriate.

Board-side partners

Relevant placements are labelled so their role is plain.
